Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo as the country's new prime minister, state broadcaster RTS reported Monday. Lo previously served as a minister attached to the president in charge of monitoring, steering and evaluating Senegal's national transformation agenda, "Senegal 2050."

He has also served as the minister-secretary-general of the government and as the national director of the Central Bank of West African States for Senegal. Faye dismissed former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and dissolved the government on Friday, according to a presidential statement.

Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae has said the government plans to ask for a fiscal 2026 supplementary budget to help fight surging energy prices. She said she hopes to submit a draft budget totaling over 3 trillion yen, or 18.8 billion dollars, to the Diet as early as next week.

Takaichi was speaking to reporters on Monday about how the government will respond to the consequences of the situation in the Middle East. She said she wants subsidies on gas and electricity bills from July to September this year, worth around 3.14 billion dollars, to be funded by reserves included in this fiscal year's budget. She added that the Cabinet would decide on the matter at a meeting on Tuesday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for greater cooperation with Serbia on artificial intelligence, energy, and infrastructure during talks with President Aleksandar Vucic on Monday. They should also cooperate on transportation and energy infrastructure through China's Belt and Road Initiative, he said.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Iran and the United States have reached understandings on many issues during indirect talks aimed at ending the war, but stated that a final agreement is not yet close.
