Pwintbyu November 17
Pwintbyu Township Agriculture Department of Magway Region stated that local farmers have planted 284 acres of vegetables as cold
season crops in the township.
In Pwintbyu Township, it is planned to cultivate 1,745 acres of vegetables during this year’s winter crop season, and cultivation began
in October. As of now, 284 acres have been planted.
The Township Agriculture Department, in cooperation with local farmers, is making efforts to meet the planned target, according to reports.
“This winter crop season, our plan for Pwintbyu Township is to grow vegetables on 1,745 acres, and as of today, cultivation has been completed on 284 acres. We will continue efforts to meet the full target. To ensure food safety, we are encouraging farmers to grow vegetables under the **Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) system, with minimal use of chemical fertilizers. We are also providing necessary technical support and guidance,” said Daw Moe Moe Wai, Head of the Pwintbyu Township Agriculture Department.
During this winter crop season, the Township Agriculture Department has been helping vegetable farmers to expand their cultivation areas, increase yields, and apply the GAP system correctly by conducting technical training courses and awareness programmes on proper cultivation methods and pest and disease prevention.
Daw Moe Moe Wai added that if vegetables are cultivated with good yields and quality, it would be sufficient to meet local consumption needs, and the surplus could be sold for income, thereby improving the livelihoods and socio-economic status of local residents. Therefore, efforts are being made to further expand vegetable cultivation in the township.'
