Mawtinsun Buddha Pujaniya Festival to be held from 16 Feb to 2 Mar
The Buddha Pujaniya Festival at the Mawtinsun Pagoda in Ngaputaw Township, Pathein District, Ayeyawady Region, will be held for 15 days from 16 February to 2 March, according to the pagoda’s Board of Trustees.
The Buddha Pujaniya Festival at the Santawshin Myat Mawtinsun Pagoda is scheduled to take place from the first waxing day of Taboung (16 February) to the Full Moon Day of Taboung (2 March).
“As in previous years, the festival will be held this year with great enthusiasm and in keeping with tradition. As an act of reverence to the Buddha, 45 monks will consecrate the pagoda, and the Maha Pathana treatise will be recited in homage to the Dhamma. In honour of the Sangha, a rice-offering ceremony for 160 monks will be held on the Full Moon Day of Taboung,” said U Kyaw Swa Win, a member of the pagoda’s Board of Trustees.
The Santawshin Myat Mawtinsun Pagoda in Ayeyawady Region can be reached by speedboat from Pathein to Hainggyikyun. The pagoda, located on Mawtin Cape along the coast of Ngaputaw Township, Pathein District, Ayeyawady Region, is accessible by both water and land routes. — ASH/MKKS
