The Tourism Committee’s meeting (1/2026) was held at the Jade Hall of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on February 25th.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee for Tourism Development, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, and Union Minister for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, Jeng Phang Naw Taung, who delivered an opening address. In his opening remarks, the Union Minister stated that today's meeting was convened to review and coordinate the implementation status of directives and decisions from previous meetings of the Central Committee for Tourism Development and the Tourism Committee, as well as matters requiring further action.

He encouraged committee members to discuss and identify measures that should be undertaken for the development of Myanmar's tourism industry. He noted that Myanmar is planning to host the Mekong Tourism Forum-2026 and related meetings during the year. He urged committee members attending the meeting to collectively provide recommendations and discussions for the further improvement and development of Myanmar's hotel and tourism sector. Subsequently, the Committee Secretary Director General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism read and presented the implementation status of previous Tourism Committee meeting decisions and submissions requiring committee decisions.

Following this, committee members including ministers from the Nay Pyi Taw Council and Region/State governments, tourism experts, and representatives from private tourism organizations discussed and presented matters related to their respective sectors. The Permanent Secretary, Director General, and Chairman of the Myanmar Tourism Federation provided supplementary discussions and presentations.

Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe then presented analyses and discussions on matters including ensuring the long-term sustainability of Myanmar's tourist destinations, attracting more domestic and international tourists, tourism market promotion, human resource development in the hotel and tourism sector, and tourism infrastructure development. The Union Minister provided supplementary remarks on necessary matters and delivered a concluding address.

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Dr. Soe Win, received Mr. Lee Yam Ming, Executive Director of the AHA Centre, at the Ministry’s reception hall on February 25.During the meeting, both parties engaged in a cordial and open exchange of views on the matters including, the collaborative efforts in earthquake relief following the Mandalay earthquake, including the deployment of ASEAN-ERAT (Emergency Response and Assessment Team) members, the status of reconstruction projects coordinated by the AHA Centre with donor nations.This includes the donation of Prefabricated Schools, Prefabricated Rural Healthcare Centres, and one one-story Reinforced Concrete (RCC) monastery building, funded by the governments of the Philippines, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China, the humanitarian assistance provided by the Government of the People’s Republic of China for earthquake relief and ongoing negotiations for the donation of educational school buildings for long-term recovery.The AHA Centre's distribution of Food and Non-Food Items (NFI) to those in need of assistance across Myanmar. The opening ceremony of the Basic Tax Training Course No. (1/2026) was held at the Internal Revenue Department, Office No.(46) in Nay Pyi Taw on February 25th. At the ceremony, Union Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr. Kan Zaw highlighted that modern technologies and reforms are being implemented to improve the tax system all over the world. He focused on that this training is specially organized as it is essential for employees from other related government departments to have tax knowledge and cooperation in order to successfully carry out tax-related processes.By working more closely together with respective departments, it will help collect tax revenue to meet its targets the country deserves. He called for everyone to work together to ensure that every citizen understands their tax rights and responsibilities to create a clear and favorable tax environment for domestic and foreign investors.It is learnt that (40) officials from the Ministry of National Planning, Ministry of Finance and Revenue, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Commerce, and the Office of the Union Auditor General will attend  the course and it will last for two weeks.mitv

Groundbreaking Ceremony: Ceremony for Myanmar Diplomatic Academy held
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Myanmar Diplomatic Academy, held at the compound of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw at 8 AM on 25th February 2026. At the ceremony, the Union Minister, the Deputy Ministers and ‌a representative of Mother Development Co., Ltd laid stakes at the designated places and sprinkled scented water on them.  Upon the completion, the Ministry will expand its training and educational programs to systematically develop foreign service personnel into highly qualified, next-generation diplomats, while also sharing knowledge on international and diplomatic affairs with interested individuals, including staff from various government organizations and ministries.mitv
