Tourism Committee Meeting: TCM Chairman UM delivered the opening remarks
The Tourism Committee’s meeting (1/2026) was held at the Jade Hall of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on February 25th.
The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee for Tourism Development, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, and Union Minister for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, Jeng Phang Naw Taung, who delivered an opening address. In his opening remarks, the Union Minister stated that today's meeting was convened to review and coordinate the implementation status of directives and decisions from previous meetings of the Central Committee for Tourism Development and the Tourism Committee, as well as matters requiring further action.
He encouraged committee members to discuss and identify measures that should be undertaken for the development of Myanmar's tourism industry. He noted that Myanmar is planning to host the Mekong Tourism Forum-2026 and related meetings during the year. He urged committee members attending the meeting to collectively provide recommendations and discussions for the further improvement and development of Myanmar's hotel and tourism sector. Subsequently, the Committee Secretary Director General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism read and presented the implementation status of previous Tourism Committee meeting decisions and submissions requiring committee decisions.
Following this, committee members including ministers from the Nay Pyi Taw Council and Region/State governments, tourism experts, and representatives from private tourism organizations discussed and presented matters related to their respective sectors. The Permanent Secretary, Director General, and Chairman of the Myanmar Tourism Federation provided supplementary discussions and presentations.
Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe then presented analyses and discussions on matters including ensuring the long-term sustainability of Myanmar's tourist destinations, attracting more domestic and international tourists, tourism market promotion, human resource development in the hotel and tourism sector, and tourism infrastructure development. The Union Minister provided supplementary remarks on necessary matters and delivered a concluding address.
