U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that his administration has reviewed a proposal for a 45-day ceasefire in the war with Iran, describing it as a "very significant step." Meanwhile, Trump said that the Tuesday deadline he has set for Iran to make a deal is final, saying that the president himself is the only person who can determine if there's a ceasefire.

Trump on Monday doubled down on threats against Iran as his Tuesday deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approaches, saying he had even "worse" options than his previous threats to strike Iran's power plants and bridges if a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is not reached.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Monday that a ceasefire would only give opponents time to regroup and commit further crimes, and "no sane" person would accept it.

Trump possibly extends deadline for Iran to reopen Strait of Hormuz
Political news, Political-International news -

US media outlets are speculating that President Donald Trump has pushed back his deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump took to social media on Sunday, proclaiming "Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!" But he did not elaborate.

The time represents exactly 24 hours after the deadline Trump announced in a social media message on March 26. He wrote at the time that US forces would not strike Iranian energy facilities before it expires. Trump also aired a warning in Saturday's social media post. He declared: "Time is running out -- 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them." This suggested that Iran had until Monday to make a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
