Plan underway to grow more than 1,000 acres of sweet corns in YeU Township this year

Statistics of YeU District Agriculture Department stated that local farmers will grow more than 1,000 acres of sweet corns in coming cold season in YeU Township of Sagaing Region.
During the 2025–2026 winter crop season, it is planned to cultivate 1,067 acres of sweet corn in YeU Township, with planting to take place from October to December this year.
U Zaw Myint Tun, Head of the District Department of Agriculture in YeU, said: “This winter crop season in YeU Township, we have planned over 1,000 acres of sweet corn cultivation.
We will work to ensure that the planned acreage is fully achieved. At present, cultivation is progressing well, even beyond the initial target. To ensure successful growth of the corn crops, we will provide technical awareness and guidance to prevent pest and disease outbreaks.”
The Township Department of Agriculture will provide sweet corn farmers in YeU with training sessions, field demonstrations, and awareness on preventive measures against corn borer pests, the use of integrated pest management practices, and application of insecticides and fungicides such as neem, chili solutions, and other crop protection methods.
In YeU Township, sweet corn cultivation yields about 15,000 ears per acre, while the cost of cultivation is estimated at over K500,000 per acre.
