The Myanmar Thanaka Festival was held for the first time at Mahathetkya Marazein Kyauktawgyi Pagoda in Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay Region, on the full moon day of Tabodwe, 1 February.
The Myanmar Thanaka Festival was jointly organized by Thanaka enthusiasts and Thanaka-related businesses in Mandalay to mark Myanmar Thanaka Festival Day. Visitors were given pieces of Thanaka as gifts. It was also announced that the Myanmar Thanaka Festival will be held annually on the full moon day of Tabodwe.
“To celebrate the full moon of the Myanmar Thanaka Festival, we are holding a free Thanaka gift-giving ceremony. Thanaka lovers who come to the festival and apply Thanaka will receive a Thanaka gift in return. We plan to hold the festival every year,” said Daw San San Myint, one of the organizers of the Myanmar Thanaka Festival.
The Thanaka Festival was supported by Thanaka producers and related businesses, including Shwe Pyi Nan, Shwe Sin, MNT, Shwe Bo Minthamee Thanaka, Shwe Pyi Win, Myint, Htoo, Thin Pyant Pyant, Myat, Min Khant, Ma Khaing, Waing Pyae Pyae Kyaw, Ko Tun Min Oo, and Daw Oo. — ASH/MKKS
