Zalun Pagoda to host Buddha Pujaniya festival for 8 days
The Buddha Pujaniya festival will take place at the Zalun Pyidawpyan Pagoda for eight days, from 24 February to 2 March, featuring festivities and ceremonies to pay reverence to the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha, according to U Khin Maung Oo, a member of the Zalun Pyidawpyan Pagoda Board of Trustees.
“The Taboung Buddha Pujaniya Festival at Zalun Pyitawpyan Pagoda is held from the 9th waxing day to the 1st waning day of Taboung. During the festival, a Dhamma sermon will be conducted as part of the Dhamma Puja event. In the Buddha Puja event, offerings will include gold foil covering, and alms to the Buddha image. In the Sangha Puja event, rice offerings will be made, and there will also be fun activities and markets. The Regional Government will take special care of security during the festival,” said U Khin Maung Oo.
The Zalun Pyidawpyan Buddha Image in Zalun Township, Ayeyawady Region, is one of the four Muni Buddha Images in Myanmar. The Maha Muni Buddha Image is in Mandalay, Mandalay Region; the Shin Kyaw Muni is in Kyauktaw, Rakhine State; the Shwe Bontha Muni is enshrined at Shwe Bontha Pagoda in Padaung Township, Bago Region; and the Manaungmyin Muni is enshrined at the Pyidawpyan Pagoda in Zalun Township, Ayeyawady Region. — ASH/MKKS
