Labutta March 23 Merchants from Labutta Township in Ayeyawady Re gion sent 65,000 viss of blood clams to Yangon market in February, said Daw Wai Wai, the owner of seafood trading depot in Labutta Township. In Labutta Township, lo cally produced seafood is being exported to the Yangon market. During January this year, only about 50,000 viss of blood clams were export ed, but between February 1 and 28, exports increased to around 65,000 viss within the month. The exported blood clams were priced at up to K165,000 per 10 viss, accord ing to reports. “Within a month, exports of blood clams to Yangon were strong. Local seafood products are mainly shipped to the Yangon market. There is currently high domestic demand for blood clams. Over the past month alone, we exported about 65,000 viss of sea-caught blood clams. At present, buyers from Yangon are actively purchasing blood clams as well as other local seafood products,” said Daw Wai Wai. As seafood exports, in cluding blood clams, from Labutta Township to the Yan gon market have increased, fishermen, cargo handlers, and traders are benefiting.
