Kristi Noem traveled to Quito, Ecuador on Wednesday as part of her role as Special Envoy for the “Shield of the Americas”, a U.S.-led initiative to coordinate regional efforts against drug trafficking, organized crime, and illegal migration.

During the visit, Ecuador’s president Daniel Noboa awarded her the National Order of Merit, one of Ecuador’s highest civilian honors. The award recognized her work in strengthening security cooperation between the United States and Ecuador, especially in operations targeting drug cartels and transnational criminal networks.
