  • Tug of War team honoured for SEA Games performance

Myanmar athletes who competed in the XXXIII South-East Asia Games were honoured at a ceremony held in Yangon yesterday evening.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Traditional Myanmar Sports Federation at a venue in Dagon Myothit (North) Township, where officials presented certificates of honour and cash awards to coaches, officials and athletes.
The Myanmar Tug of War team secured third place at the Games held in Bangkok and is set to compete again in the XXXIV SEA Games. — Bala/KZL

The first-ever Myanmar Sepak Takraw League (MSL 2026) concluded in Yangon at the Thuwunna Sepak Takraw Stadium on Sunday.The event was organized by the Myanmar Sepak Takraw Federation in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Physical Education, Club Development Committee, and Shwe Than Lwin Media.During the prize-giving ceremony, awards were presented to the winning teams  for Women's Triplet, Men's Triplet and Men's Quartet. Teams competed from March 14 to April 5 in round-robin style matches, with 5 women's teams and 10 men's teams participating. Each winning team received trophies, certificates, and cash prizes.mitv

First Myanmar Sepak Takraw League finals held in Yangon
The finals of the inaugural Myanmar Sepak Takraw League 2026 (MSL 2026), jointly organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, the Myanmar Sepak Takraw Federation, the Club Development Committee and Shwe Thanlwin Media, took place yesterday afternoon at Thuwunna Sepak Takraw Indoor Stadium in Thingangyun Township, Yangon.The event saw Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, members of the regional government, officials and invited guests.In the finals, Youth Camp defeated YRG in the women’s event with scores of 15-8, 12-15 and 15-6. In the men’s three-player event, YRG beat Shwe Kyun Thar 6-15, 15-10 and 15-5. In the men’s quadrant event, A Dark Horse defeated YRG 9-15, 17-15 and 15-9.After the matches, an award ceremony was held, where individual medals, cash awards and trophies were presented to outstanding male and female youth players as well as first, second and third prize-winning teams by regional government officials and responsible persons.Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein presented medals, cash awards and the championship trophy to A Dark Horse, winners of the men’s quadrant event.The competition featured five teams in the women’s regu event and 10 teams in the men’s event, competing in men’s regu and men’s quadrant categories under a round-robin format from 14 March to 5 April. — Bala/KZLgnlm

The award ceremony of the Myanmar-China Cultural Exchange Photo Contest, held to mark the 75th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and China, took place yesterday morning at Myawady Media Centre on Moegaung Road, Yankin Township, Yangon.The event was organized by the Myanmar Arts and Culture Development Association (MACDA) in cooperation with the Photographic Society of Myanmar.At the ceremony, MACDA patron Academy Award-winning director and Pachi Soe Moe and Chairman of the Photographic Society of Myanmar U Than Tun Oo delivered opening remarks.Awards were presented to first prize winner U Saw Aung Thein Tun, second prize winner Shwe Inntha Khin Maung Win, third prize winner Mazda Aung Myint and consolation prize winners by responsible officials.Afterwards, officials from the association signed a memorandum of understanding with the Belt & Road Development Myanmar Corporation to cooperate in implementing development projects and to promote social and economic development in Myanmar through collaboration with international organizations, private enterprises and business groups.—MNA/KZLgnlm

Yangon’s Shan community celebrates 2026 traditional Thingyan pre-festival with festive spirit
According to the Shan Literature and Culture Association (Yangon), the 2026 Shan Traditional Thingyan (pre-festival) celebration of Shan ethnic people living in Yangon was held in a lively and festive manner on 4 April at the 9th-Mile Shan Monastery (Bamboo-strip Pagoda) in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region.The event was jointly organized by the Shan Literature and Culture Association (Yangon) and Cherry FM.“We create chances for children of Shan community to enjoy water festival. We set small ponds for children. Moreover, we served them with purified drinking water and varieties of foods including Shan traditional snacks,” said Sai Khae Leng of Yangon Shan Literature and Culture Association.The festival was held not only to allow Shan ethnic people residing in Yangon to experience the atmosphere of the Thingyan festival from Shan State, but also to strengthen friendship and unity among ethnic communities.Last year, they held the activities of Shan traditional Thingyan festival at Hmyawsin Island in Kandawgyi Lake in Bahan Township of Yangon Region. — ASH/KNNgnlm
