The 2026 China-Myanmar Martial Arts Exchange were held at the Yangon China Culture Centre in Yangon on 31 March.
The event was organized by the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar, the Myanmar Wushu Federation and China Media Group (CMG), with the aims of promoting Chinese traditional Wushu and Myanmar traditional martial arts, strengthening cultural ties between the two countries, and fostering continued cooperation in training and technical exchanges between martial artists.
“In my opinion, my first exposure to Chinese culture was not through classical literature, but through Chinese comics and translated Myanmar books featuring themes such as the Shaolin Temple, Wudang Mountain, tai chi, baguazhang, iron-hand martial arts, legendary warriors and royal swordsmen. Later, on television, I watched vivid portrayals in programmes such as Guan Yu from the Three Kingdoms era, Hawk Warrior and Journey to the West, which inspired many people to learn more about Chinese martial arts,” said U Aung Thu, Vice-Executive Chairman of the China-Myanmar Economic Cooperation and Development Promotion Association.
The discussion was attended by Li Changkao, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar; U Thitsa, President of the Myanmar Wushu Federation; Shan Zhangpao, Head of the Yangon-China Culture Centre; U Ohn Maung, Chairman of the Myanmar Writers’ Association; writer U Min Min Htike; Li Fuquan, Chairman of the China-Myanmar Economic Cooperation and Development Promotion Association; and U Thant Htet Sint, Senior Researcher at the Myanmar Institute of Strategy and International Studies (Myanmar – ISIS). Representatives from several Chinese schools also discussed the positive role of martial arts in promoting China-Myanmar friendship.
In addition, a video marking International Taiji Day was screened at the seminar, and three instructors from Henan Shaolin Kung Fu Chan Academy, YuDe Education Centre, and the Myanmar International Education Centre (MIEC) demonstrated basic techniques of Shaolin Kung Fu, Yi Jin Jing, Bajiquan and wushu. — ASH/MKKS
