Organized by the Rakhine State Government, the Rakhine Traditional Sandalwood Grinding Festival and Water Pouring to Buddha Image, was held as part of the 1387 ME Maha Thingyan Festival, took place on the morning of April 13 at U Ottama Hall in Sittwe and at the Atula Marajin Pyi Lone Chantha  Pagoda.

First, after the Rakhine ceremonial drum was sounded to mark the beginning of the Rakhine Traditional Sandalwood Grinding Festival, the State Chief Minister, U Naing Oo, and his wife, the Speaker of Rakhine State Hluttaw, Dr. San Shwe, the Chief Justice of the State High Court and the regional commander cut the ribbon to open the ceremony.

Subsequently, the Rakhine State Cultural Dance Troupe performed a dance to the song "Thingyan Atar Kyu Li Yint .

Next, the State Chief Minister, U Naing Oo, delivered New Year's wishes, stating that the Traditional Sandalwood Grinding Festival is a traditional custom of the Rakhine people, passed down through generations from the Dhanawaddy  Era, Vesali  Era, Laymyo  Era, and Mrauk-U  Era up to the present day.

He prayed that Rakhine State may stand as a peaceful, prosperous, and developed state, that all evil sins may be cleansed, and that the socio-economic lives of the state's people may be highly improved.

After that, the Traditional Sandalwood Grinding groups were introduced one by one. As they ground the sandalwood scented water, the State Chief Minister, his wife, and responsible officials toured and encouraged the participants in the Sandalwood Grinding Ceremony.

Following this, the Rakhine State Cultural Dance Troupe performed a Rakhine traditional Thingyan song, and the State General Administration Department's dance troupe performed to the song "Akhar Kyi Nant Yat Myat Dana. The State Chief Minister, his wife, and responsible officials presented honorariums to the sandalwood scented water grinding groups and performance troupes, and then posed for a group photo.

Thereafter, carrying the scented water obtained from the ceremony, a procession paraded to the Atula Marajin Pyi Lone Chantha Pagoda in Sittwe to perform the traditional ceremony of Water Pouring to Buddha Image. The State Chief Minister, his wife, and responsible officials paid homage to the pagoda and offered flowers, oil lamps, and water.

Then, the ceremony of Water Pouring to Buddha Image was opened. The State Chief Minister, his wife, and responsible officials, upholding Rakhine tradition, used the scented water from the ceremony to perform the Water Pouring to Buddha Images at the Atula Marajin Pyi Lone Chantha Pagoda. Finally, the State Chief Minister, his wife, state government members, and departmental officials splashed New Year water on each other as part of the pre-Thingyan and pre-New Year celebrations, it’s reported.
