A Paritta recitation ceremony was held at the Pyithu Hluttaw (C) Hall in the Hluttaw Building in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday, to mark the first day of the Myanmar New Year 1388. The Presiding Patron of Rajadhani Samane Kyaw Monastery graced the ceremony, alongside the Deputy Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw U Maung Maung Ohn and his wife, the Permanent Secretary of the Pyithu Hluttaw Office and staff families.

During the ceremony, the Deputy Speaker and congregation received the Five Precepts from the Presiding Patron. Members of the Sangha delivered Paritta and religious sermon recitations. Offertories were then offered to the members of Sangha and the merits gained were shared.

Merit-Making : People across the country mark Myanmar New Year
People across Myanmar marked the New Year Day by performing religious and charitable activities at pagodas and monasteries. In Nay Pyi Taw, large crowds gathered at major religious sites including Maravijaya Buddha Image and Uppatasandhi Pagoda to observe precepts, make donations, offer food, and release fish and birds as the acts of merit.Government offices and communities also held prayer ceremonies and charity events. In Yangon, pagodas including the Shwedagon Pagoda were crowded with worshippers offering flowers, water, and candles. Ceremonies, donations, and fish releases were also held to mark the occasion.Similarly, in Mandalay, people visited Maha Muni Buddha Image and other well-known pagodas, made offerings, and carried out traditional merit-making activities such as donating charity feast, paying respect the elderly, and releasing animals.  Across the country, the New Year was welcomed with religious observances and good deeds, in line with Myanmar traditions.mitv

For the safety and peace for the people, venerable Sayadaws on Friday recited Paritta Suttas by helicopter and spread the Paritta water over the sky of Nay Pyi Taw Union Terrritory. Six venerable Sayadaws led by Dekkhinathiri Township Maravijaya Monastery Sayadaw took the Tatmadaw helicopter to recite Paritta Suttas across Nay Pyi Taw.During the Paritta Suttas recitation, the director general and concerned officials from the Department of Religious Affairs under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Tatmadaw officials and the officials from the Ministry of Health followed as laypersons and then participated together with venerable Sayadaws by making good deeds.mitv

A ceremony on reciting New Year Parittas and offering day meal was held at Yangon Region Hluttaw on Friday. The congregation led by Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu received Five Precepts from the Member of the Yangon Region Sangha Nayaka Committee Patron Sayadaw of Zetawun Parahita Monastery.The Chief Minster and wife, Hluttaw Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Regional Government members and their wives and Hluttaw Representatives donated offertories to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha. The Sayadaw later administered the sermon and the congregation shared the merits gained. Then, the day meal was offered to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha.mitv

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, the Speaker of the Yangon Region Hluttaw, regional ministers, and officials participated in a merit-making ceremony on Friday.At the Shwedagon Pagoda, they offered flowers, water, and oil lamps. Following the offerings, 30,000 fish were released into Kandawgyi Lake, along with 1,000 small birds and 36 doves, which were set free as acts of religious merit.The Chief Minister and officials also visited the Lawka Chantha Abaya Laba Muni Buddha Image in Insein Township, offering soon, flowers, water, and candles to Buddha images. They also offered cleansing water and fan at the Buddha Image on upper terrace. This was followed by releasing of 100 small birds and 10 doves into the sky.mitv

Tanintharyi Region Government organized a respect paying ceremony for the elderly aged 90 and above marking the transition to 1388 Myanmar New Year at Sasana Beikman Taw Gyi in Dawei Township on Friday.Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo delivered the opening remarks and paid respect to the 35 elderly together with the attendees. Then, an elderly expressed words of appreciation. This was followed by the presenting of cash assistance and gifts to the elderly.During the event, specialists from Dawei General Hospital provided health care services to the elderly. It’s learnt that cash assistance and gifts will be delivered to the elderly who couldn’t attend the ceremony.  Subsequently, fish releasing ceremony was held at Dawei Traditional Alms Bowl Drifting Ground on Strand Road. During the ceremony a total of 3,000 figerlings were released to Dawei River.mitv
