Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Friday that his country was on the verge of a new phase of permanent agreements, after the 10-day ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war.

In a speech addressing the Lebanese people, Aoun also said that his country was no longer an arena for anyone's wars. He added that the Lebanese government had reclaimed Lebanon and Lebanon's decision-making power for the first time in nearly half a century.

Lebanon was drawn into the Middle East conflict on March 2nd when Hezbollah attacked Israel. Last year, Lebanon took several unprecedented decisions against Hezbollah, including a commitment to disarm the group in August after a November 2024 ceasefire sought to end its previous conflict with Israel.

 The President Office issued Order No. 42/2026 on April 17, granting amnesty to a prisoner in commemoration of the Myanmar New Year. According to the order, the pardon was granted on humanitarian grounds, to promote public peace, and to enable participation in nation-building efforts. The recipient, Win Myint, currently serving a sentence at Taungoo Prison, was granted amnesty under Section 401(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The order states that the pardon is conditional.
