The ceremony for assigning regional planning objectives for the 2026-2027 fiscal year in Mandalay Region was held on April 21 at the City Hall of the Mandalay City Development Committee in Chanayethazan Township.During the ceremony, the Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung delivered the opening remarks, stating that local regional plans are pivotal for the development of the region. He explained that under the 2026-2027 Regional Planning Law, a total of 1,979 investment projects with an aggregate value of 242.496 billion Kyats must be implemented.He further noted that the region aims to achieve a total GDP value of 18927.314 billion Kyats, representing a 3.1% growth rate. He urged officials to strive for the successful realization of these sector-specific and area-specific plans to enhance the socio-economic life of the citizens, ensure people-centered inclusive sustainable development, and achieve visible progress throughout the region.Following this, the Region Minister for Planning, Economics, and Finance explained the specific projects included in the 2026-2027 regional plan. Subsequently, the Director of the Regional Planning Department presented a detailed briefing on the 2026-2027 regional planning targets.The Region Chief Minister then formally handed over the 2026-2027 regional planning objectives to the members of the Region Government members and the Chairpersons of the District Planning and Implementation Committees.The Region Ministers continued by detailing the sector-wise implementation strategies for regional development activities. A total of 182 container vessels arrived at the Yangon Port in the first quarter (from January to March) 2026, the Myanma Port Authority announced.The Yangon Port witnessed arrivals of 59 container vessels in March, 60 in February and 63 in January 2026. This month, 53 vessels are slated to call at the Yangon Port.The Yangon Port handled 728 container vessels in 2025, 633 in 2024 and 629 in 2023. Thanks to the draft extension, the international ocean liners can access the inner port for now, according to the Myanma Port Authority’s statement on 22 June 2022.After the new navigation channel (Kings Bank Channel) accessing the inner Yangon River was found, the draft extension work was accelerated. Afterwards, the port can now handle larger ships. The container vessel MV SITC Zhaoming (185.99-metre LOA, 35.25-metre Beam, 29,232 GRT and 2,698 TEUs) of Hong Kong-based SITC Shipping Line docked at the Asia World Port Terminal for the first time on 22 June, which is the largest ship that AWPT Port has handled. — NN/KKgnlm
