The Board of Trustees of the Myathalun Pagoda has announced that a rice offering ceremony for more than 1,000 monks and the banyan tree watering festival will take place at the Myathalun Pagoda in Magway on Vesak Day (the Full Moon Day of Kason).
The festival will be organized by the Rice Offering Festival Committee in Magway Region, in collaboration with donors from various departments and townships, on the morning of 30 April.
U Ohn Kyaing, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Myathalun Pagoda, said: “On the morning of Vesak Day, there will be a rice offering ceremony at Myathalun Pagoda. We will provide offerings to more than 1,000 monks from monasteries. In the evening, we will mark Vesak Day by watering the banyan trees within the pagoda precinct, as we have done in previous years.” — ASH/MKKS

Visiting Naypyitaw State Academy: MOE UM inspected for opening CRI in NSA
The Union Minister for Education, Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, along with responsible officials, visited the Naypyitaw State Academy on April 21st. The Union Minister inspected the completed status of the Recreation Centre and subsequently toured and examined the premises to explore the possibility of opening a Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) at the Naypyitaw State Academy.Afterwards, the Union Minister met with Directors General, the Rector, Pro-Rectors, Professors (Heads of Department), and responsible officials at the Naypyitaw State Academy meeting hall. She stated that she was there to study the matters that need to be implemented, as the President had already provided guidance to develop the Naypyitaw State Academy as a pioneering university for enhancing research capacity.She added that since the Naypyitaw State Academy is a leading national university, it must always participate in pilot projects. She also mentioned that the Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) would be established and implemented at Nay Pyi Taw State Academy, Yangon University, and Mandalay University.Noting that human resources and internationally standard research equipment have already been adequately provided for conducting research and innovation activities at the Naypyitaw State Academy, she instructed that work must be carried out within 100 days to produce beneficial and effective research for the nation.Subsequently, the Deputy Minister, Dr. Zaw Myint, presented that he would coordinate to comprehensively provide the equipment actually needed for establishing the CRI at the Naypyitaw State Academy. He also reported that regarding the Learning Management System (LMS), the necessary digital education infrastructure at Naypyitaw State Academy, including Smart TVs, a Digital Learning Centre, the LMS system, and high-speed internet lines, have already been installed.Therefore, he would work to promote teaching, research, and innovation activities. Following this, the Rector of Naypyitaw State Academy, Dr. Nu Nu Lwin, and the Professors (Heads of Department) discussed and presented matters, and the Union Minister coordinated and addressed the necessary requirements.Continuing, the Union Minister attended and delivered an opening speech at the Coordination Meeting for 2025-2026 Academic Year Lu Yay Chun or Outstanding Student’s Camps Opening held in the afternoon at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Education. She stated that she wanted the respective committees to clarify the completed status of their tasks. After that, the Sub-Committee Chairpersons clarified the completion status of their respective committees' work. According to U Tin Aung Myint, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, a ceremony to offer rice to 1,000 monks and 100 nuns will be held at the pagoda in conjunction with the watering of banyan trees on Vesak Day, which falls on 30 April.On Vesak Day, also known as Buddha Day, 1,000 monks will participate in the consecration of the Shwemawdaw Pagoda. In addition, well-wishers will offer rice and alms to 1,000 monks and 100 nuns. In the afternoon, a ceremony to pour water on the banyan trees will take place.“The pagoda will be consecrated by 1,000 members of the Sangha from monasteries in Bago at 5 am on the full moon day of Kason, 30 April. At 5:30 am, meals will be offered to 1,000 members of the Sangha and 100 nuns. The rice-offering ceremony will take place on the pagoda platform. From 4 pm, the banyan trees within the precinct of the pagoda will be watered. At about 6 pm, a venerable Sayadaw will deliver a sermon at Buddha Beikman,” said U Tin Aung Myint.At Shwemawdaw Pagoda, the banyan tree watering ceremony is held annually on the full moon day of Kason. The opening ceremony of the English Language Proficiency Enhancement Course (Main Course) for primary school teachers was held on April 20 at the Multipurpose Hall of Dawei University, Dawei, Taninthayi Region. The ceremony began with a performance by the trainee teachers, who sang the song "Golden Age of Education".At the ceremony, Region Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo, expressed his great pride and joy that teachers are spending their summer vacation to attend English language proficiency enhancement courses for their self-development. The 43rd Maha Bodhi Banyan Water-Pouring Festival will be held at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon on 30 April (the full moon day of Kason), starting at 7 am, according to U Bo Thin, a member of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees.The opening ceremony of the Kason Banyan Water-Pouring Festival will take place at the Maha Bodhi banyan tree located at the southeast corner of the pagoda platform. A coordination meeting for the successful holding of the grand auspicious ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council was held in Yangon on April 18.Union Minister for Religious Affairs U Tin Oo Lwin attended the meeting and gave a speech, explaining the historical importance of Buddhist councils and plans for the upcoming ceremony, including exhibitions, competitions, and religious events. After the meeting, the Union Minister inspected construction work for a commemorative stone pillar and exhibition areas related to the Buddhist councils.Since the passing of the Buddha into Parinibbana, the Buddhist Councils had been held up to the Fourth Council in Rajagaha, Vesali, Pataliputta, and Sri Lanka. To better preserve the Tipitaka, the Fifth Council was held in Mandalay, Myanmar, and the Sixth Council was held in Yangon, Myanmar, at the Maha Pasana Cave in the Kaba Aye Pagoda compound.The upcoming Kason Full Moon Day of the year 1388 Myanmar Era will mark the 70th anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council. Thus, a grand auspicious ceremony will be held at the Maha Pasana Cave.
