The American Embassy in Yangon announced on 30 April that the Jefferson Center in Mandalay, which has served as a vital bridge between the United States and Upper Myanmar for decades, has officially reopened.

According to the statement, Charge d’Affaires Doug Sonnek hosted a special reception on 29 April to commemorate the completion of extensive renovations to the historic heritage building following the 2025 earthquake.

The embassy’s statement highlighted that the Jefferson Center has stood for decades as a significant connection point between the US and Upper Myanmar. The recent renovations reaffirm a commitment to providing a safe, modern space for young leaders, scholars and students to connect and collaborate, to engage in mutual learning, and to pursue creative innovations.

The US Embassy expressed great pride and pleasure in welcoming the community back to a stronger and safer Jefferson Center.
