Opening Ceremony of SPIEF 2026: VP U Nyo Saw attended and delivered the remarks
The opening ceremony of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was held on June 4th at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre in St. Petersburg, where Vice President U Nyo Saw attended and delivered remarks.
Also attending the ceremony were the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of the Kyrgyz Republic, Union Ministers, heads of delegations and representatives from more than 130 countries around the world, the Myanmar Ambassador to the Russian Federation, the Myanmar Consul General in St. Petersburg and officials, dignitaries and officials from invited countries, and business leaders.
First, a commemorative video for the forum was shown, followed by welcome remarks from the Governor of St. Petersburg. Vice President U Nyo Saw then delivered remarks, stating that Myanmar possesses great potential for long-term development and occupies a strategically important geographical position at the crossroads of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia.
He said that Myanmar, located between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, serves as a natural land bridge connecting regional markets and facilitating trade, transportation, and economic integration. He added that, in order to fully utilize these advantages, the Myanmar government is implementing policies aimed at facilitating trade and improving the business environment.
Afterward, remarks were delivered by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, the Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
Earlier in the morning, the delegation led by the Vice President attended the EAEU–ASEAN Economic Dialogue, where Union Minister for National Planning, Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Aung Kyaw Hoe participated in discussions. Later, the Vice President separately met at the center with delegations led by Leningrad Region Governor Mr. Alexander Drozdenko and Russian Minister of Economic Development Mr. Maksim Reshetnikov to discuss matters related to the cooperation.
