Woman arrested in Mandalay for attacking aunt, niece with hammer over money dispute
A woman has been arrested after hitting her aunt and niece with a hammer and stealing gold and money due to financial difficulties in Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay.
On 26 October, police found 84-year-old retired librarian Daw Khin Soe Myint had died with head injuries, and her 36-year-old granddaughter, Ma Aye Aye Khine, was seriously injured at their home in Myothit Ward 2, Chanmyathazi Township. The police opened a case under Penal Code Section 302/326.
According to the investigations, the offender was the niece of the victim, Ma Soe Soe Tun, who was working as a junior assistant teacher at No 4 BEMS, Yatkwatgyi in PyinOoLwin. She was arrested later that evening when she returned to the crime scene.
She confessed that due to financial problems, she attacked Daw Khin Soe Myint and Ma Aye Aye Khine with a hammer and stole one 10-tical gold bar and K10 million from the house on 25 October, then sold the gold to repay her debts.
Action is being taken against the offender, Ma Soe Soe Tun, who hit her aunt and niece with a hammer for monetary problems, and stolen evidence is being recovered. — MNA/KTZH
