Trading of tilapia fish in high demand at domestic market in Myanaung Township
Myanaung December 22
Tilapia fish is being traded with high demand at the fish and meat market in Myanaung Township of Ayeyawady Region, said Daw Aye Thet, the owner of fishery product trading depot in Myanaung Township.
Trading of tilapia fish is booming at the domestic market in Myanaung Township from the first week of December to date. Its trading is 2,000 viss to 3,500 viss per day at the domestic market due to high demand of consumers.
“In the fish market, demand for tilapia has recently been strong. Prices vary depending on weight and freshness. As sales of tilapia—one of the main freshwater products—have improved, workers, traders, and major fish farmers are seeing better business conditions.
Normally, supply is not consistent, but daily sales now reach more than 3,500 viss,” said Daw Aye Thet.
In Myanaung Township, wholesalers purchase locally sourced tilapia, process them to market standards, and distribute them for sale.
Tilapia from the area are currently selling for up to K18,500 per viss. Kyaw Kyaw Lin
