Dissemination of Research Report: MOH UM delivered an opening address
The dissemination ceremony for the research report on studying risk factors for non-communicable diseases in Myanmar was held on March 11 at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Health, in Nay Pyi Taw.
The Union Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, delivered the opening address. In his address, the Union Minister stated that according to World Health Organization data, over 43 million people die annually worldwide due to non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stroke, and cancer. He noted that more than 80 percent of these deaths occur in developing countries.
The rising morbidity and mortality from non-communicable diseases in many countries around the world, including Myanmar, has become a major challenge for public health and healthcare systems. He mentioned that research studying non-communicable disease risk factors using the STEPs Survey method has been conducted in Myanmar four times in total, including studies carried out in 2003, 2009, 2014, and the recently completed research that began in 2024 and concluded in 2025.
He stated that as Myanmar aims to achieve universal access to quality healthcare coverage by 2030, the Ministry is planning nationwide coverage to protect the population from healthcare expenditures that could impact their socio-economic well-being etc. Approximately, 120 people attended the event
