The dissemination ceremony for the research report on studying risk factors for non-communicable diseases in Myanmar was held on March 11 at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Health, in Nay Pyi Taw.

The Union Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, delivered the opening address. In his address, the Union Minister stated that according to World Health Organization data, over 43 million people die annually worldwide due to non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stroke, and cancer. He noted that more than 80 percent of these deaths occur in developing countries.

The rising morbidity and mortality from non-communicable diseases in many countries around the world, including Myanmar, has become a major challenge for public health and healthcare systems. He mentioned that research studying non-communicable disease risk factors using the STEPs Survey method has been conducted in Myanmar four times in total, including studies carried out in 2003, 2009, 2014, and the recently completed research that began in 2024 and concluded in 2025.

He stated that as Myanmar aims to achieve universal access to quality healthcare coverage by 2030, the Ministry is planning nationwide coverage to protect the population from healthcare expenditures that could impact their socio-economic well-being etc. Approximately, 120 people attended the event

Following this, Deputy Directors General in charge of respective branches, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, the Director General of the Sports and Physical Education Department, and the Permanent Secretary respectively discussed and reported necessary matters according to the work implementation sectors of their relevant branches.Deputy Ministers then supplemented discussions regarding sports sector development activities and the branch-wise discussion reports. A ceremony to present appointment letters to new nurses who have obtained Bachelor of Nursing Science (Regular) degrees from the Ministry of Health, assigning them as civil servants, was held on March 11 at the Multipurpose Hall of the Midwifery Training School in Nay Pyi Taw.The event was attended by the Union Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, who delivered an opening address. In his address, the Union Minister expressed his desire that the nurses receiving their appointments today will adhere to professional ethics when providing healthcare services to the public at their respective duty stations. He encouraged them to strive to earn the trust and confidence of the people in their profession. Following this, the Chairperson of the Myanmar Nursing and Midwifery Council, Daw Nwe Nwe Khin, delivered a speech.The Union Minister then presented appointment letters to two new graduate nurses representing the University of Nursing (Yangon) and the University of Nursing (Mandalay) who have obtained Bachelor of Nursing Science (Regular) degrees. One new graduate nurse expressed words of gratitude.During the ceremony, a total of 451 new graduate nurses from the University of Nursing (Yangon) and the University of Nursing (Mandalay) who have obtained Bachelor of Nursing Science (Regular) degrees were appointed. From 2021 to date, the Ministry of Health has appointed 898 new graduate nurses with Bachelor of Nursing Science degrees, 5,893 new graduate nurses with Diploma in Nursing, and 1,554 new graduate midwives. The Ministry of Health is planning to arrange for the appointment of 1,453 trainees who will complete the three-year Diploma in Nursing course in May 2026 as new graduate nurses.mitv

Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, accompanied by Kayin State Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo, Social Affairs Minister U Saw Tun Aung, and responsible officials, visited Basic Education High School No. (1), Basic Education High School No. (2), Basic Education High School No. (3), and Basic Education High School No. (4) in Kayin State in the morning of March 11.They observed the 2026 Matriculation Examination being conducted at these schools. Subsequently, they proceeded to the Basic Education and Industrial, Agricultural, and Livestock High School (Don Yin ) and the Technical High School (Hpa-an), where they observed the 2026 Industrial, Agricultural, and Livestock University Entrance Examination being taken.They provided financial assistance to the students and conducted an inspection tour of the school premises. MFF offers free basic football summer class
Organized by the Myanmar Football Federation, the MFF summer football skills course 2026 opening ceremony was held on 11 March at the Academy Artificial Turf in Yangon.It aims to help young Myanmar people spend the summer holiday fruitfully and encourage the next generation of football players to appear. At the opening ceremony, Myanmar national football players and guests kicked the ball to open the course. The unpaid course will be conducted into two batches for this year in Yangon, Mandalay, Taunggyi, Pathein and Mawlamyine- the first batch is scheduled from 9 March to 8 April, and the second batch is scheduled from 20 April to 20 May and youths between 10 and 15 years old will be accepted, plus training uniforms will be provided free.Altogether, 500 trainees in Yangon, 400 in Mandalay and 200 in Taunggyi, Pathein and Mawlamyine will be accepted. In addition, a futsal training course has also been planned to open in Yangon, and 200 trainees will be accepted.This course is mainly designed to encourage children who have a passion for sports and wish to spend their summer holiday happily, under its theme “learn, play, enjoy”. — MT/ZSgnlm

49,000+ students sit on Day One of 2026 Matric Exam in Yangon Region
A total of 49,256 students sat the 2026 matriculation examination at various examination centres in Yangon Region yesterday, the first day of the exam.There are 111 examination centres for the 2026 matriculation examination in Yangon Region. A total of 49,256 students — 22,231 male and 27,025 female — sat the Myanmar language paper yesterday.“There are 111 examination centres in Yangon Region for the matriculation examination. Among them, students specializing in industrial, agricultural and livestock will also take the examination. The Yangon Region Government has coordinated with the security and transport departments to ensure that students can take the examination smoothly. For external candidates, relevant departments have arranged transport facilities upon presentation of their examination admission cards. We, the Education Department, would like to thank the Yangon Region Government and relevant departments for their support and guidance in ensuring that students can sit the examination smoothly,” said Dr Cho Cho Myat Aung, Yangon Region education officer.The examination will be held at 107 examination centres in Yangon Region, while the industrial, agricultural and livestock matriculation examination will be conducted at four centres.
