Registration board bans 55 pesticides
The Pesticide Registration Board, operated under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, issued a list of 55 restricted pesticides at its meeting held on 10 March 2026, in exercise of the power conferred by Section 47 of the Pesticide Law, according to its notification 7/2026.
Those pesticides are identified, including toxic chemicals that can pose hazards to human beings, animals, crops and the environment.
Any governmental institutions and organizations are prohibited from registering, distributing, importing, repackaging, selling, or using the following chemicals: aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, chlordane, heptachlor, lindane (gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane), alpha-hexachlorocyclohexane, beta-hexachlorocyclohexane (BHC), toxaphene, chlordecone, chlorobenzilate, mirex, hexachlorobenzene (HCB), strobane (polychloroterpenes), and DDT (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane); aldicarb, carbofuran, methomyl, methamidophos, methyl parathion, monocrotophos, parathion ethyl, phosphamidon, diafenthiuron, trichlorfon, terbufos, chlorpyrifos, EPN, dinoseb, DNOC, and paraquat; alachlor, captafol, triflumizole, benomyl, carbendazim, glufosinate-ammon, 2,4,5-T, and 2,4,5-TP; arsenic compounds, mercury compounds, ethylene dibromide (EDB), ethylene dichloride, fluoroacetamide, borax decahydrate, boric acid, hydramethylnon, metaflumizone, and mineral oil; as well as chlordimeform, binapacryl, endosulfan, and pentachlorophenol (PCP).
Those involved in illegal sales of those pesticides will face legal actions under the Pesticide Law.
The board can revise and issue the list of prohibited pesticides as necessary. The previous notification 15/2023 issued by the board was hereby cancelled, and this notification will be effective from 1 April 2026. — NN/KK
