17 petrol stations fined, 24 warned for regulatory breaches nationwide
Action has been taken against 17 petrol stations nationwide for failing to comply with fuel sales regulations, while 24 stations have been issued strong warnings, according to the Ministry of Energy.
To facilitate smoother fuel purchases for the public, an upgraded system using barcode and QR code mechanisms has been introduced, allowing fuel to be sold based on designated quotas according to engine capacity. The system is currently implemented at fuel stations in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Yangon, Mandalay, Taunggyi, Bago, PyinOoLwin, and along the Yangon–Mandalay Expressway and the Yangon-Mandalay highway.
Authorities took action following complaints received through the call centre regarding station closures, failure to scan barcodes or QR codes, overpricing, and illegal sales practices that adversely affect consumers.
As part of enforcement measures, a total of 17 petrol stations in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Mandalay Region, Yangon Region, and Mon State have been penalized due to the temporary closure of stations.
In addition, 24 stations found to be selling fuel without scanning barcodes or QR codes have been strongly warned. These include three stations in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, four in Yangon Region, ten in Mandalay Region, and seven in Shan State.
Authorities have stated that effective action will be taken against any stations found to be repeatedly violating the prescribed regulations. — ASH/KZL
