Online Scam Operations : Effort to eradicate online frauds
The government, regarding the fight against online fraud and gambling that endangers the international community and the entire world, considers this a national duty and is actively taking measures to ensure such activities are completely eradicated from Myanmar.
In addition to domestic forces, the government is coordinating and cooperating with neighboring governments. On the afternoon of April 7, it was reported that 126 foreign nationals were arrested in Tachileik Township, Shan State (East), along with equipment used in their online scam and gambling operations.
According to intelligence that online scam and gambling activities were being conducted in Tachileik Township, Shan State (East), a joint team including security forces conducted a search. At approximately 1:30 PM, at a location about 13,000 meters northwest of Tachileik and about 3,000 meters southwest of Pan Ku Village, they found nine buildings with zinc roofs, zinc walls, and plywood flooring. Inside, they arrested a total of 126 illegal foreign nationals, comprising 122 Chinese men and 3 Chinese women, as well as 1 Lao woman.
They also seized equipment used in online scam and gambling operations, including 120 monitors, 97 CPU units, 46 all-in-one computers, 12 StarLink devices, 12 Wi-Fi routers, 105 assorted mobile phones, and 1 large generator. The seized equipment used in online scam and gambling will be processed in accordance with established procedures.
Those arrested will be effectively prosecuted in accordance with the law. Authorities will continue to investigate and identify those involved behind the scenes and take effective legal action against them, it’s reported.
