The opening ceremony of the 2026 Chin State Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival was held at 2:00 PM on April 13 in front of the Chin State Government Office in Hakha. Chin State Chief Minister Dr. Wong Sun Htan attended the event and delivered an opening speech.

First, the Patron of the 2026 Chin State Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival Organizing Steering Committee, State Chief Minister Dr. Wong Sun Htan, delivered his New Year greetings. He stated that among Myanmar's 12 seasonal festivals, the Maha Thingyan Festival is the first and longest-running festival centered around Myanmar culture.

He highlighted that it is not only a nationwide celebration for Myanmar but also an internationally recognized event, having been inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He wished everyone a happy and peaceful Thingyan in the early days of the New Year, free from danger and cleansed of the misdeeds and impurities of the old year.

Afterward, the Chin State Chief Minister, the Speaker of the State Hluttaw, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, the State Ministers officially opened the Chin State Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival by cutting a ribbon. The State Chief Minister and officials then sprinkled Atar water on State Hluttaw representatives, state-level departmental officials, and Yein (traditional dance) troupes using scented water and Thabyay (Eugenia) sprigs.

Following this, the State Chief Minister and officials observed and offered encouragement at the demonstrations of traditional Myanmar Thanaka culture and the preparation of traditional Myanmar Lahpet servings. They then watched and supported the performances of Yein dance troupes and solo singing and dancing acts held in the meeting hall of the State General Administration Department at the State Government Office.

It is reported that all guests and audiences attending the Eve (Akyo Nei) of the Chin State Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival were generously treated to a Satuditha (charity feast).
