An international “Walk for Peace” aimed at spreading the message of non‑violence around the world is scheduled to commence in Sri Lanka on April 22nd. In preparation for the event, several Buddhist monks arrived in Sri Lanka on Friday to take part in the walk.

A group of twelve monks, led by Venerable Pannakara Thero, who previously provided leadership to “Walk for Peace” in the US, is scheduled to participate in the walk. Following a long journey, the monks are expected to spend the coming days making initial preparations for this special peace pilgrimage.

Turkmenistan and China broke ground Friday on works to expand production at the giant Galkynysh gas field. Turkmenistan, which holds the world's fourth-largest gas reserves, had exported nearly all its production to China since 2009, when the Central Asia-China pipeline opened.During the ceremony, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdymukhamedov and former president formally inaugurated the launch of the fourth of seven planned development phases at Galkynysh.
