  • NATO 'must remain united', says Italian PM Meloni

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called on NATO allies to remain united following reports that the United States was considering action against Spain over its refusal to support operations against Iran.

Speaking at the end of a summit in Nicosia, Meloni said NATO unity and the strengthening of its European pillar remained priorities for Italy. She reaffirmed Italy’s position on maintaining the UNIFIL mission between Israel and Lebanon, stating that an international presence along the border remains necessary, with ongoing discussions among partners on its mandate beyond the end of the year. Meloni also expressed support for continued mediation efforts between Israel and Lebanon amid direct talks between the two sides.
