Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, together with Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint and senior officials, on April 24 inspected ongoing preparations at Yangon University’s Diamond Jubilee Hall.In meeting with the Executive Committee members of Myanmar Academy of Arts and Science, the Union Minister outlined the launch of the Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) at universities in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay to promote practical, innovative research for national development.The Union Minister emphasized collaboration among scientists, quality over quantity in research papers, and connecting with international researchers for greater impact. Afterwards, the Union Minister and party inspected the Diamond Jubilee Hall.The Union Minister then met with the Pro-Rectors and department heads at Yangon University’s Convocation Hall, emphasizing that the 100-Day Plan to be implemented with the new government focuses on research activities. She highlighted that the CRI must be established within this period to produce innovative, practical research that benefits the nation. She stressed collaboration across different academic departments, prioritizing quality over quantity in research papers, and positioning Yangon University as a leading university in research.Following this, Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint presented plans for establishing the CRI, ensuring high-quality research papers, upgrading university curricula, and implementing effective teaching and management systems within the 100-day timeframe. Attendees also discussed strategies to support researchers in producing high-quality research papers.Later, the Union Minister reviewed curriculum development with the National Curriculum Committee, focusing on vocational, agricultural, and ethical education.On April 25, the Union Minister visited a pilot “Football for School Programme” at Basic Education School No. 1 in East Dagon Township and oversaw the facilities at Yangon University of Economics in Ywathagyi, and sports facilities in Thahton Road of Kamayut Township. The Union Minister also visited the Yangon Universities' Boat Club and inspected the conditions for upgrade.mitv

Kayah State held an awards ceremony on Saturday to recognize outstanding students from primary and higher education for the 2025–2026 academic year in Loikaw. The ceremony opened with a performance by a student from Loikaw Education Degree College, to the song “Luchon Lu Kaung” to honor the awardees.In his speech, Chief Minister U Aunt Maw emphasized that the ceremony not only acknowledges students’ academic achievements but also encourages them to contribute their skills to the state and nation in the future. Awards and cash assistance were later presented to the students, who expressed their gratitude on behalf of their peers. The event also showcased documentary stories and educational videos to raise public awareness. This year’s theme is “For Every Generation, Vaccines Work”, emphasizing the role of vaccines in protecting children and adults alike.Myanmar has been running immunization programs since 1889, currently covering 13 preventable diseases. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expand immunization coverage, strengthen disease surveillance, and ensure timely vaccination for all, contributing to better public health and sustainable development goals.mitv

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo and his wife visited the military hospital in Mongphyat on Friday. They met with officers, Tatmadawmen, police personnel, and their families receiving treatment, and comforted them. Wife of the Commander-in-Chief also visited the women and child wards to comfort the patients. They also provided food, medical supplies, and cash assistance, and toured the hospital.mitv

Myanmar National League club Yangon United have made a coaching change ahead of the new season, parting ways with Japanese coach Yuki Tsutsuro and appointing Argentine coach Juan Marcelo Cirilli as his replacement.The club announced on 23 April that both sides mutually agreed to terminate Yuki’s contract. He had taken charge midway through last season and led the team to an impressive run of 10 wins and one draw in 11 league matches. AI-Driven Innovation Centres Set for Key Universities
The Ministry of Education has announced that Centres for Research and Innovation (CRI) will be established and implemented at Naypyitaw State Academy, University of Yangon, and University of Mandalay.It is also reported that plans are already underway to develop Naypyitaw State Academy, located in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, into a leading research university.In establishing it as a research-focused institution, the academy has already been equipped with the necessary human resources and internationally standard research equipment to carry out research and innovation activities. As a result, implementation will be undertaken within 100 days to ensure the production of effective and beneficial research outcomes for the country.In carrying out these initiatives, work will also be integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. AI tools will be used to improve lessons, while efforts will also be made to develop digital education, including the establishment of a digital learning platform and the systematic implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS).In the teaching and learning sector, training programmes will also be provided to ensure that teachers become proficient in the use of LMS platforms. — ASH/MKKSgnlm
