Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur coaches conducted a special training session for children attending the second batch of the summer grassroots football programme organized by the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) on 3 May.
The event, held under the “AYA Game Plan: AIA Score with Spurs” programme at the MFF Academy Artificial Ground in Yangon, featured opening remarks by officials from AIA Myanmar, MFF and AYA Bank. Representatives, coaches and participants also took group photos, and commemorative gifts were presented to Spurs coaches Kevin Moffatt and Tyler Blackwood.
The two Tottenham coaches later led practical sessions, teaching basic football techniques to the young trainees as part of the ongoing summer programme. — Shine Htet Zaw/KZL

Atthakatha texts of Tri Pitakat treatises donated to venerable monks
A ceremony to donate computer-typeset editions of the Atthakatha tests of Tri Pitakat treatises was held at the Maha Pasana Cave in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region, yesterday morning.Venerable monks led by Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Candima Bhivamsa, Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, attended the event together with Union Minister for Religious Affairs U Tin Oo Lwin, the Yangon Region Chief Minister and donors.Attendees observed the Five Precepts while members of the Sangha recited Paritta. The Union minister then explained the purpose of donating the computerized editions of the Atthakatha treatises.Officials and donors formally presented the books to venerable monks from Buddhism learning centres across Yangon Region, while cash for nine prerequisites were also handed over.A total of 51 volumes of Atthakatha treatises were compiled digitally starting in January 2024 and printed in September 2025. Work is ongoing on 26 volumes of Atthakatha treatises revised at the Sixth Buddhist Synod, two of which have already been completed. The Bawbawgyi Stupa, notable for its cylindrical base and banana bulb-shaped design, dates back over a thousand years to the Pyu era.The UNESCO-listed Bawbawgyi Stupa in southwest of the ancient city of Sri Ksetra, Pyay Township, Bago Region, is being restored following damage caused by the Mandalay earthquake.Cracks appeared around the stupa’s circular structure due to impacts of the severe earthquake, while small banyan trees growing on the monument were found to pose long-term risks to its stability, prompting urgent conservation work.Restoration is being carried out without altering its original design, with efforts expected to be completed before the monsoon season to prevent further damage from rainwater entering the cracks. Nearby pagodas including Phayama Pagoda will also be inspected and repaired as necessary.The Bawbawgyi Stupa, notable for its cylindrical base and banana bulb-shaped design, dates back over a thousand years to the Pyu era and is closely associated with historical accounts of King Duttabaung of the Sri Ksetra dynasty and Queen Panhtwar, making it one of the most prominent ancient monuments in Myanmar. — ASH/KZLgnlm

Propagation of Sasana: Donation of Tipitaka Attha Kahta Treatises
A ceremony to donate computerized texts of the Tipitaka Attha Kahta Treatises was held at the Maha Pasana Cave in Yangon on Sunday.Union Minister for Religious Affairs U Tin Oo Lwin donated the treatises to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha led by Chairman Sayadaw of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, together with Yangon Region Chief Minister, regional ministers, donors and officials. Before the Lord Buddha entered Parinirvana, He made a declaration regarding the Dhamma, saying ‘The Dhamma and Vinaya teachings that He had preached will continue to exist with the disciples as their guide.’This prediction laid the foundation of Theravada Buddhism. The Dhamma teachings preached by Lord Buddha during his 45-year Vassa were scrutinized six times at the Buddhist Councils. From the first to the third Buddhist Councils, the Dhamma teachings were recited by Arahats over a period of seven to nine months.At the fourth council, held in Sri Lanka, 500 Arahats recited the Buddha’s teachings for a year and inscribed them on palm leaves. However, due to climatic conditions and insect damage, these palm leaf manuscripts deteriorated. Consequently, the fifth Buddhist Council was held for five months and three days during the reign of King Mindon in Myanmar.At this council, 2,400 members of the Sangha recited the Buddha’s teachings and inscribed them on stone plaques. In 1954, the sixth Buddhist Council was held at the Maha Pasana Cave during the tenure of Prime Minister U Nu. The council included 2,500 members of the Sangha from four Theravada countries, as well as participants from India, Nepal, and Pakistan, who recited the Buddha’s teachings for two years and published the printed texts.These printed versions need to be reprinted due to deterioration over time. The process of computerizing 51 printed Attha Katha texts began in January 2024, following guidance from the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Sayadaws, and was completed in September 2025. An additional 26 Tika treatises are currently being computerized. Arrangements are also underway to develop an e-book version of the completed 51 treatises.mitv

The Special Exhibition on the 70th Anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council will be on display until May 10 at Maha Pasana Cave on Thiri Mingala KabaAye Hill in Yangon.Since its opening on April 30, the exhibition has attracted large crowds, and the public can visit free of charge from 9:00 am. to 5:00 pm.The exhibition features 10 sections, including the life of the Buddha; the convening of the Buddhist Councils, the construction of Maha Pasana Cave, statues of prominent Sayadaws from five Theravada countries, religious items used during the Sixth Buddhist Council, items donated from foreign countries, ancient printing tools and three printed Tipitaka treatises, the process of publishing Attha Kahta, translations of Pali, Myanmar, and English texts, and religious buildings.The First Buddhist Council was convened in the 1st year of the Buddhist Era, the Second in the 100th year, the Third in the 235th year, the Fourth in the 450th year, the Fifth in the 2415th year, and the Sixth in the 2498th year.
