According to the town ship Agriculture Depart ment, local farmers plan to grow more than 4,000 acres of vegetables as monsoon crops in ChaungU Township of Sagaing Region this year. During the 2026-2027 monsoon crop cultivation season, ChaungU Town ship plans to cultivate 4,838 acres of vegetable crops, with cultivation set to begin in the third week of May this year, according to reports. “This year, during the monsoon crop cultivation season in ChaungU Town ship, we are targeting the cultivation of more than 4,000 acres of vegetables. Efforts will be made to en sure the full targeted acreage is achieved. The crops in clude mustard, chili, culinary herbs, potatoes, cabbage, eggplant, and cauliflower. Farmers are being provided with technical assistance so that all vegetables can be cultivated using the GAP system. We will also provide technologies and guidance to ensure that all cultivated vegetables contain minimal chemical residues and are suitable for healthy consump tion,” said U Tint Swe, head of the ChaungU Township Department of Agriculture. This year, the township Department of Agriculture will provide technical train ing to vegetable farmers in ChaungU Township on cul tivation using GAP methods, guidance to ensure that veg etables produced from farms are healthy and safe crops, and assistance to encourage farmers to expand vegetable cultivation. Various seasonal vegeta bles are cultivated annually in ChaungU Township, and the vegetable crops grown have been successful and profitable for farming fami lies. The township Depart ment of Agriculture will also provide awareness and technical guidance to veg etable farmers on correct cultivation methods, pest pre vention, and the preparation and use of natural fertilizers, natural pesticides, and insect repellents.

In order to develop and improve farmers’ cultivation and production in the agricultural sector, increase individual income, raise foreign exchange earnings through exporting high-quality rice, and provide good opportunities for large rice farmers, the government is implementing Rice Export Zones (REZs) with funding from the “Country’s Economic Promotion Fund.”On the morning of May 9, Dr. Ye Tint Htun, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, met with the Hluttaw representatives, relevant departmental officials, entrepreneurs, and rice farmers at the meeting hall of the Myanmar Rice Research Department in Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region, to provide clarifications and discuss the establishment and implementation of Rice Export Zones (REZs).During the clarification meeting, the Deputy Minister explained that entrepreneurs would inform farmers about rice varieties in high demand in the market, so that sufficient quantities could be produced, producer groups and farmer groups would collaborate continuously to meet production goals, agricultural experts would help disseminate cultivation techniques within the zones and the government-managed Rice Export Zone (REZ) fund would be made accessible for farmers’ use. He also emphasized expanding cultivation within the zones to increase the export of Paw San Hmwe rice and other varieties. The Deputy Minister coordinated with the responsible officials based on the reports and requests from entrepreneurs and farmers.Subsequently, 50 Drum Seeders donated by the Myanmar Rice Federation and natural fertilizers provided by the Yangon Region Department of Agriculture were distributed to farmers.At the end of the ceremony, the Deputy Minister and officials observed the demonstration plots at the Myanmar Rice Research Department, where Hsin-Thukha and Hmawbi-3 rice varieties had been planted on 100 acres for seed production. During the 2026-2027 monsoon crop cultivation sea son, Wetlet Township plans to cultivate 21,256 acres of pigeon pea, with planting to be carried out from June through September this year, according to reports. “This year, during the monsoon crop cultivation sea son in Wetlet Township, we have targeted planting more than 21,000 acres of pigeon pea. Efforts will be made to ensure the full targeted acre age is achieved. Measures are also being undertaken to ensure good yields in pigeon pea cultivation. Farmers grow pigeon pea both as a sole crop and as an intercropped crop,” said Daw Kyin San, head of the Wetlet Township Depart ment of Agriculture. This year, the township Department of Agriculture will provide field-based awareness and technical sup port to pigeon pea farmers in Wetlet Township on the selection and cultivation of quality pure seeds, the use of correct cultivation methods, pest prevention, and ways to achieve better yields. The Wetlet Township De partment of Agriculture is also distributing technologies that combine the use of urea and borax in order to reduce farmers’ costs for purchasing foliar fertilizers.
