According to the town ship Agriculture Depart ment, local farmers plan to grow more than 4,000 acres of vegetables as monsoon crops in ChaungU Township of Sagaing Region this year. During the 2026-2027 monsoon crop cultivation season, ChaungU Town ship plans to cultivate 4,838 acres of vegetable crops, with cultivation set to begin in the third week of May this year, according to reports. “This year, during the monsoon crop cultivation season in ChaungU Town ship, we are targeting the cultivation of more than 4,000 acres of vegetables. Efforts will be made to en sure the full targeted acreage is achieved. The crops in clude mustard, chili, culinary herbs, potatoes, cabbage, eggplant, and cauliflower. Farmers are being provided with technical assistance so that all vegetables can be cultivated using the GAP system. We will also provide technologies and guidance to ensure that all cultivated vegetables contain minimal chemical residues and are suitable for healthy consump tion,” said U Tint Swe, head of the ChaungU Township Department of Agriculture. This year, the township Department of Agriculture will provide technical train ing to vegetable farmers in ChaungU Township on cul tivation using GAP methods, guidance to ensure that veg etables produced from farms are healthy and safe crops, and assistance to encourage farmers to expand vegetable cultivation. Various seasonal vegeta bles are cultivated annually in ChaungU Township, and the vegetable crops grown have been successful and profitable for farming fami lies. The township Depart ment of Agriculture will also provide awareness and technical guidance to veg etable farmers on correct cultivation methods, pest pre vention, and the preparation and use of natural fertilizers, natural pesticides, and insect repellents.
