Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw on May 22 visited a water pipe and irrigation equipment manufacturing factory in Mingaladon Township of Yangon Region.

During the visit, officials explained the production process and ongoing operations. The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of producing durable and affordable water pipes, sprinkler systems, and drip irrigation equipment to support water-saving agricultural practices, especially in water-scarce areas. He pointed out that wider use of quality irrigation systems could help improve Myanmar’s agriculture and livestock sectors.

The Deputy Minister later inspected drainage canal excavation works in Hlegu Township. Officials reported on the progress of works, and the Deputy Minister instructed the systematic excavation works according to design plans to ensure smooth water flow during the rainy season and reduce flooding risks. He also emphasized cooperation with local authorities to prevent obstructions in waterways and urged efforts to improve summer and monsoon paddy production after completion of the drainage projects.

International Constitutional Conference: Myanmar delegation attends the conference in Russia
A Myanmar delegation, led by U Aung Zaw Thein, Chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal, attended the international conference on “Constitutional Oversight and Contemporary Global Challenges” in Saint Petersburg, Russia from May 19 to 21.The invitation was extended by Mr. Valery D. Zorkin, Chairman of Russia’s Constitutional Court. The conference was attended by chairpersons and judges from constitutional courts across Asia, legal experts, and representatives of international organizations.At the conference, U Aung Zaw Thein shared Myanmar’s experiences in addressing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting citizens’ environmental rights, and adapting to advances in technology and the impact of Artificial Intelligence on judicial processes. A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Ye Tint Tun attended the 2026 International Tea Day ceremony held in Nanning, China, on May 20.At the event, attended by representatives from ASEAN member states, China, FAO, tea experts, and business leaders, the Deputy Minister said tea production plays an important role in Myanmar’s culture and economy.He highlighted that Myanmar has over 240,000 acres of tea plantations and a unique tradition of consuming tea both as a drink and as food. He added that Myanmar is working to expand exports of organic tea to neighboring countries as well as European and American markets by improving quality standards and producing value-added products.He also noted that Myanmar tea won a special gold award at a global tea exhibition in Shenzhen in 2023. During the trip, the Myanmar delegation visited tea exhibitions, jasmine tea production facilities, and jasmine plantations in China. They also studied the use of artificial intelligence technologies in agriculture and other sectors at the China-ASEAN AI Innovation Cooperation Center. The Ministry of Electricity and Energy made an announcement on temporary power outage in several townships.To secure a sufficient electricity supply within Ayeyawaddy Region, a 10.5 MW Hydropower Plant is currently under consruction at Kanyin Dam in Myan Aung Township. The project is being implemented by Kanyin Hydro Power Co., Ltd.As part of the process to connect the electricity generated from the Kanyin Hydropower Plant to the national power grid, the 66 kV substation under construction in Htoo Gyi Township will be linked to the 66 kV Myan Aung–Hinthada No. 1 transmission line. During the connection works, power supply will be temporarily suspended from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on 23 and 24 May in Ingapu, Mezalikone, and Htoo Gyi townships.mitv
