  • Yangon-Mandalay Rail Route Expanded with Two More DEMU Trains

The Myanma Railways operated DEMU air-conditioned passenger express trains 3Up/4 Down and 5Up/6Down for the Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon route starting May 2026. Due to strong passenger demand and popularity, a modern air-conditioned DEMU express train, 9Up/10Down, will be introduced starting from 1 June 2026, according to the following schedule:

The new 9Up/10Down trains will stop at Toegyaungkalay, Bago, Pyu, Toungoo, Nay Pyi Taw, Pyawbye and Thazi stations along the Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon railway.

Ticket prices remain unchanged at K48,000 for upper class and K34,000 for first class for the whole journey.
DEMU passenger express trains 11Up/12Down operate on the Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon rail route, while 7Up/8Down and 31Up/32Down operate on the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon section.
Tickets for these trains can be purchased online in advance through the Online Railways Ticketing and Payment (ORTP) system. Tickets for whole journeys can be purchased up to seven days in advance, while tickets for intermediate stations can be purchased up to five days ahead.
Similarly, on the Yangon-Mandalay railway, modern air-conditioned DEMU trains 15Up /16Down run on the Bago-Yangon-Bago rail route. Moreover, short-distance RBE trains operate as Tha-301Up/Tha-302Down on the Mandalay-Thazi-Mandalay railway. Tha-401Up/Tha-402Down on the Thazi-Nay Pyi Taw-Thazi railway, Tha-501Up/Tha-502Down on the Nay Pyi Taw-Toungoo-Nay Pyi Taw rail section, and Tha-601Up/Tha-602Down on the Toungoo-Bago-Toungoo railway. — MNA/KTZH

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is replacing the existing ACSR 132 kV Magwe–Taungdwingyi power line with advanced aluminium conductor composite core (ACCC) cables, which can carry more than twice the current capacity.From May 22 to May 24, 4% of the upgrade work was completed. The remaining section will undergo power shutdown from 6:00 AM on May 29 to 6:00 PM on May 31, to continue the replacement. Necessary power adjustments will be made during the work, and residents have been informed through the local electricity offices.mitv

Magway Region Chief Minister U Tin Ko Ko, and Speaker of the Magway Region Hluttaw, Dr. Maung Maung Htay, along with responsible officials, inspected the land development process for providing land to Tatmadaw personnel and their family members who have diligently performed national security duties Thursday morning in Nan Kat Kyun  Village Tract, Magway Township.First, upon arrival at the land development worksite, the Chief Minister, Speaker, and responsible officials were briefed at a temporary briefing hall.Officials presented updates on various aspects, including the status of single-line road and bridge construction within Plots No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 designated for free allocation to Tatmadaw personnel and their families, specifically, the raising of road embankments and the laying of laterite gravel, the installation of two transformers and the construction of power lines to provide electricity, and the completion status of windbreak planting.Following these presentations, the Chief Minister provided guidance on necessary requirements, coordinated with officials across sectors to address needs for expediting the completion of the works, and conducted an on-site inspection tour of the worksite.Subsequently, the Chief Minister and responsible officials inspected the selection of a 26.35-acre plot of uncultivated land located at Plot No. 1693, Htone Pauk Taw ထုံးပေါက်တော Village, Magway Township, as a multi-faith cemetery site. Old Vihicles Exchange Program : Scrapping of old vehicles and importation of EVs
The Ministry of Commerce has issued a notification on May 28 regarding the scrapping of old vehicles and the importation of replacement electric vehicles (EVs).The announcement stated that vehicles which have been in use for many years consume more fuel, waste public funds, increase the risk of traffic accidents, and contribute to environmental pollution due to excessive exhaust emissions. To address these issues, the government will allow the replacement of such vehicles with EVs according to the value of the submitted vehicle.This applies to the vehicles that are more than 20 years old from the year of manufacture, vehicles that can no longer be repaired to ensure safe driving and the vehicles that are less than 20 years old but whose owners voluntarily wish to submit them. If the owner submits Vehicle Deregistration Certificate Form (d) issued by the Road Transport Administration Department, one suitable EV may be approved for replacement import based on the type of vehicle submitted. The approval will be reviewed by the National-Level Leading Committee for the Development of Electric Vehicles and Related Industries.In addition, the required foreign currency for the import will be sold by the Central Bank of Myanmar at an appropriate exchange rate.mitv
