Yangon-Mandalay Rail Route Expanded with Two More DEMU Trains
The Myanma Railways operated DEMU air-conditioned passenger express trains 3Up/4 Down and 5Up/6Down for the Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon route starting May 2026. Due to strong passenger demand and popularity, a modern air-conditioned DEMU express train, 9Up/10Down, will be introduced starting from 1 June 2026, according to the following schedule:

The new 9Up/10Down trains will stop at Toegyaungkalay, Bago, Pyu, Toungoo, Nay Pyi Taw, Pyawbye and Thazi stations along the Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon railway.
Ticket prices remain unchanged at K48,000 for upper class and K34,000 for first class for the whole journey.
DEMU passenger express trains 11Up/12Down operate on the Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon rail route, while 7Up/8Down and 31Up/32Down operate on the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon section.
Tickets for these trains can be purchased online in advance through the Online Railways Ticketing and Payment (ORTP) system. Tickets for whole journeys can be purchased up to seven days in advance, while tickets for intermediate stations can be purchased up to five days ahead.
Similarly, on the Yangon-Mandalay railway, modern air-conditioned DEMU trains 15Up /16Down run on the Bago-Yangon-Bago rail route. Moreover, short-distance RBE trains operate as Tha-301Up/Tha-302Down on the Mandalay-Thazi-Mandalay railway. Tha-401Up/Tha-402Down on the Thazi-Nay Pyi Taw-Thazi railway, Tha-501Up/Tha-502Down on the Nay Pyi Taw-Toungoo-Nay Pyi Taw rail section, and Tha-601Up/Tha-602Down on the Toungoo-Bago-Toungoo railway. — MNA/KTZH
