President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, currently in India on an official visit, met families of the Myanmar Embassy and the Military Attaché Office to India and scholarship trainees at the Myanmar Embassy to India yesterday evening. The President and party were welcomed by Myanmar Ambassador U Zaw Oo and his wife, Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Zaw Moe Lwin and his wife, families of the Myanmar Embassy and the Military attaché’s Office. Myanmar Ambassador U Zaw Oo and the families of the Myanmar Embassy, the Military Attaché Office, and trainees introduced themselves. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the current visit is his first foreign trip since assuming duties as President, made at the invitation of the Government of India. India and Myanmar share a common border and have long maintained good relations, as well as historical similarities dating back to ancient times. He recounted that during the first term of the democratic government, peace talks were conducted and a certain level of peace was achieved as a result. Provisions regarding the rights of ethnic groups have already been included in the 2008 Constitution. The President retold that efforts were made from all perspectives to ensure that a free and fair election could be held and successfully conducted. The elected representatives chosen by the people are now convening the Hluttaw, and the elected government is currently carrying out the responsibilities of the State. The President emphasized that the government is firmly continuing along the path of a multiparty democratic system. In doing so, it will continue to implement its work in accordance with the 2008 Constitution. Necessary constitutional amendments appropriate to current circumstances should be discussed and carried out with the approval of the Hluttaw. However, matters that could be detrimental to the country must also be safeguarded against. He noted that there are weaknesses in the country’s education system. Due to these shortcomings, knowledge and skills remain limited, and individuals’ ability to develop and improve their lives is also weak. Therefore, efforts are continuously prioritized to raise the overall standard of education in the country. The President stated that during the five-year period in which they will assume responsibility for the affairs of the State, reforms in education, the economy, and national development must be carried out. For the development of the country, he underlined that embassy and military attaché office families currently serving in India are encouraged to contribute and cooperate in every possible way within their capacity. He urged that efforts be made to actively and effectively participate in all possible areas of cooperation between Myanmar and India. During their time living abroad, staff are encouraged to live in unity, maintaining the mindset of being civil servants working in the interest of the nation. The President presented foodstuffs and cash awards for families of the Myanmar Embassy and the Military Attaché Office, and trainees to the Ambassador, the Military Attaché and trainees.
