At water-play pavilions and Walking Thingyan in Yangon, the public has been celebrating the New Year water festival since the morning of April 14, Myanmar Traditional Cultural Maha Thingyan Akya Day.

The Yangon City Maha Thingyan Pavilion, the Walking Thingyan, the People's Square Thingyan Pavilion, and the Walking Thingyan were bustling with Thingyan-loving citizens. At the Yangon City Maha Thingyan Pavilion, starting from 8 AM, departmental Yein dance troupes and ethnic dance troupes performed competitive dances.

Vocalists from Myanmar Music Association and artists from the Myanmar Music Association and the Myanmar Theatrical Association (Central) performed lively, crowd-pleasing songs. Festival-goers joyfully celebrated Akya Day by singing along and dancing.

Similarly, at the Thingyan Pavilion and the Walking Thingyan water-play pavilion at People's Square in Yangon, there were crowds of people celebrating the New Year water festival, watching entertainment programs at the performance pavilion, playing with foam, and relaxing and dining at the food stalls.

The festival was also bustling with people joyfully and peacefully celebrating the New Year water festival at Thingyan pavilions and Walking Thingyan events in districts and townships across the Region, it’s learnt.
