Thingyan Festivities in Sittwe : Rakhine State CM attended the Thingyan festivities
On the morning of April 14th, the Thingyan Akya Day or the Descent Day of Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival, Rakhine State Chief Minister U Naing Oo, his wife, and members of the state government visited monasteries in Sittwe to offer alms food and other offertories.
First, State Chief Minister and his wife visited the Nandarama Pariyatti Monastery in Sittwe to pay homage to the presiding Sayadaw. After the State Chief Minister supplicated on religious matters, he and his wife offered alms food and offertories to the Sayadaw.
Afterward, the State Chief Minister and his wife visited Shwezedi Monastery and other monasteries in Sittwe, continuing to offer alms food and donations to the Sayadaws. It is reported that the Rakhine State Chief Minister, his wife, and members of the state government will provide daily alms food and offertories to monasteries in Sittwe from Thingyan Akya Day through Thingyan Atet Day.
In the evening, the Chief Minister, his wife, and state government members visited the Central Pavilion to watch and offer encouragement to the performances by Thingyan Yein troupes, Rakhine singers, and other vocalists.
Continuing on, they visited the Rakhine Traditional Water-Playing Pavilion to observe the traditional water-playing taking place with longboats in accordance with Rakhine customs, and they actively joined in the water-playing alongside the Yein dance troupes.
Furthermore, the State Chief Minister and officials visited the Walking Thingyan Pavilion on the main road, where they happily celebrated the Thingyan festival together with the public, it’s reported.
