Inspection of Restoration Works : MDY CM inspected renovations of Maha Muni Pagoda
Due to the Mandalay earthquake, damage and destruction occurred to the Maha Muni Pagoda and the surrounding structures of the pagoda compound. Plans have been laid out and reconstruction and restoration work on the pagoda and its surrounding buildings are currently underway. Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, inspected the progress and completion status of the works on Monday.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister noted that the responsible members of the Maha Muni Pagoda Board of Trustee had carried out the reconstruction and restoration work systematically, following policies and guidelines, and with the involvement of experts, ensuring that the original designs were preserved as best as possible.
As a result, there has been notable progress in the completion of the work. He emphasized the importance of allowing pilgrims to worship peacefully and with satisfaction, maintaining cleanliness and beauty both inside and outside the pagoda compound, ensuring that temporarily opened shops operate according to regulations, and that all necessary matters be reported transparently and in a timely manner.
Furthermore, members of the region government, together with the responsible members of the Maha Muni Pagoda Board of Trustee, discussed and supplemented reports on the reconstruction work. The Chief Minister then coordinated and ensured that necessary actions were implemented. Following this, they inspected the completion status of the reconstruction and restoration of the Maha Muni Pagoda, the Gandhakuti chamber and the surrounding structures, it’s learnt.
