Industrial Development: Trial operation of newly developed cotton mill

Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr. Charlie Than and officials inspected trial operations of a newly developed two-roll cotton mill at Yamethin Cotton Mill in Yamethin Township, Mandalay Region, on Friday.

During the inspection, officials reported that modifications had been made following initial trial runs and that further testing was underway to improve quality and performance.

The Union Minister stressed the importance of producing high-quality machinery locally to support cotton farmers, increase incomes and strengthen socio-economic development. He also highlighted the government’s policy of manufacturing MSME equipment domestically to reduce import dependence, save foreign currency, improve access to spare parts and create jobs.

The Union Minister said systematic data collection and continuous testing are being carried out to ensure quality and operational safety. The project is part of efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in the domestic garment sector, with plans to transfer the technology to MSME entrepreneurs once it meets required standards.
