Austria, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago, and Zimbabwe were elected on 3 June by the General Assembly to non-permanent seats at the Security Council for 2027-2028.

Germany came in third for the two seats assigned to Western European and other States Group, with 104 votes, against 134 for Portugal and 131 for Austria. Trinidad and Tobago was elected for the Latin American and Caribbean Group, against Guyana which obtained just one vote.

Zimbabwe was elected for the African Group, unopposed. Kyrgyzstan obtained the necessary majority after three additional rounds of voting against the Philippines and was elected for the Asia Pacific group. The election marks a historic milestone for Kyrgyzstan, which will serve on the Security Council for the first time since joining the United Nations in 1992.
