China’s national college entrance exam begins
China’s national college entrance exam, known as Gaokao, started on Wednesday with 12.9 million registered examinees taking their first test in Chinese language. This year’s exam is being held at 7,981 testing centers across the country, with 348,000 examination rooms set up nationwide.
The unified national exam covers three subjects: Chinese, mathematics and foreign languages, with testing taking place on June 7 and 8. In 29 provinces that have implemented the comprehensive Gaokao reform, students will also take elective subject exams on June 9 and 10. The specific subjects and schedules for these elective exams are determined and announced by provincial admission committees based on local conditions.
