At the central pavilion in Bago, organized by the Bago Region Government, the 2026 Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Atat Day has been celebrated since the morning of April 16. The festival is exceptionally crowded with Thingyan-loving people, as families and groups of friends gather to joyfully and peacefully celebrate the water festival.

First, the Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win, and his wife, along with region ministers and their wives, departmental officials, and responsible persons, participated in the New Year water festival together with Thingyan-loving citizens.

Afterwards, the Chief Minister and his wife, together with responsible officials, watched performances at the Bago Region Government's central pavilion.

These performances featured famous actors and vocalists singing with DJs and music bands, as well as departmental Yein troupes and Yein troupes from wards and village tracts performing elegant traditional Myanmar Thingyan Yein dances. The Region Chief Minister, his wife, and responsible officials presented cash rewards. In the evening, they watched the Yein dance competitions, as departmental Yein troupes and ward/village tract Yein troupes competed according to the prescribed contest rules.

Organized by the Bago Region Government, the Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival is being vibrantly celebrated at central pavilions in 28 townships. Additionally, in wards and villages, young people and children have gathered to happily and peacefully play Thingyan Atar water using small pavilions.

Along various streets, satuditha (charity feast) offerings of rice and curries, various Myanmar traditional snacks, and various cold beverages are being provided. The pagodas and monasteries are bustling with people observing the Sabbath and performing meritorious deeds, it’s reported.

To welcome the Myanmar New Year, ambassadors and diplomats from various countries participated in the Diplomatic Thingyan Festival organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.On the morning of April 16, the Ambassador of Nepal to Myanmar, ambassadors from Cambodia, Pakistan, Brunei, and Bangladesh, chargés d'affaires, military attachés from military attaché offices, diplomats from United Nations agencies and honorary consulates, along with their family members, departed from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw by special military aircraft. They arrived at Nay Pyi Taw International Airport in the morning, where responsible officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warmly welcomed the ambassadors, officials, and their family members who had come to attend the Diplomatic Thingyan Festival.Subsequently, the delegation of ambassadors and party proceeded to the Nay Pyi Taw City Development Committee's City Hall Pandal, where they joyfully participated in the traditional Myanmar Maha Thingyan Festival together with the public.After that, the ambassadors and party continued to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pandal. On the morning of April 15th, the Thingyan Akat Day or the Middle Day of Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival, Rakhine State Chief Minister U Naing Oo, his wife, State Hluttaw Speaker Dr. San Shwe and members of the state government and their wives visited monasteries in Sittwe to offer alms food and other offertories.First, State Chief Minister and his wife and State Hluttaw Speaker visited the Dhammarama  Monastery in Dinnyawady  ward in Sittwe to pay homage to the presiding Sayadaw. The Central Pavilion and various departmental pavilions located in front of City Hall 2, near the Bogyoke Equestrian Statue in Dawei organized by the Taninthayi Region Government are crowded with visiting members of the public enjoying the Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival, which includes a Walking Thingyan.At the departmental pavilions, including the Central Pavilion, visitors are being entertained with songs reflecting Myanmar traditional culture, Yein traditional dance performances, and stage shows.The public has enthusiastically joined in, happily dancing and celebrating along. Furthermore, as vocalists presented energetic and beautiful dance performances, the audience has shown their strong support by joyfully singing and dancing in unison.In the April-15 evening, marking the Akyat Day of the Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan, Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo, Region High Court Chief Justice Daw Paik Paik Aye, and region ministers toured the venues to watch and offer encouragement to the performers.Following this, the Region Chief Minister participated in the Walking Thingyan held along Strand Road, managed by the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs, where he celebrated alongside the public. He sprinkled Atar water on honorable guests and Yein dance troupes using Thabyay (Eugenia) sprigs.He then observed and encouraged a variety of acts, including, singing and dancing by young Yein dancers and Thingyan Yein troupes, musical performances by famous vocalists and Traditional Dawei Than gyat  performances by local youths.After offering encouragement, the Chief Minister presented the performers with cash of honor. He then delivered Thingyan greetings to the public attending the festival and distributed bottles of soft drinks.The pavilions remain highly crowded with spectators enjoying the Yein troupes and stage shows.
